Key industries in Beaufort County include Welding & Fabrication, Boat Building, Woodworking, and Plastics. Companies specializing in these areas rely on a diverse range of staff, from entry-level positions to experienced managers, advanced engineers and skilled workers. 

Welding & Fabrication

Simply put, welding joins together two pieces of metal, glass or thermoplastics with similar melting points and compositions using fusion. Fabrication is the evolutionary process of creating a metal product, from layout and design to formation and finishing. However, in this ever-evolving industry, it’s likely that many welders can fabricate, and its more likely that fabricators can weld.

Boat Building

Boat building is the design and construction of boats and their systems. This includes at a minimum the hull, with propulsion, mechanical, navigation, safety and other systems as a craft requires. Boat constructors build, restore and repair recreational and commercial boats and ships. They are also sometimes known as shipwrights or boat builders.

Woodworking

Woodworking includes cabinet making (cabinetry and furniture), wood carving, joinery, carpentry and woodturning. Cabinet makers design and build custom cabinets to specifications provided by builders and architects. They also create free-standing cabinets by cutting, shaping and assembling finished wood. They study and read blueprints, match grains and color, use power tools, and install hinges and pulls.

Plastics & Injection Molding

Injection molding is a manufacturing process for producing parts by injecting molten material into a mold. Injection molding can be performed with a host of materials mainly including metals, glasses, elastomers, confections, and most commonly thermoplastic and thermosetting polymers. Materials for the part is fed into a heated barrel, mixed, and injected into a mold cavity, where it cools and hardens.
